I. Job Summary:
The Therapist provides clinical services to individuals, families, and groups within Empower Treatment’s community-based mental health and substance use disorder programs. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality client care and case management, including identifying key therapeutic issues, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing necessary support. The Therapist will also engage in prevention and community education services as directed.
II. Job Duties:
- Deliver clinical assessments, therapeutic interventions, and ongoing support for clients on an individual, family, and group basis, with a focus on community-based engagement.
- Provide prevention, consultation, and educational services to the community as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Coordinator.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards for direct services, including working multiple evenings per week if needed.
- Manage all case-related responsibilities, including assessment, planning, service coordination, monitoring, advocacy, and treatment.
- Prepare and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation for all client interactions.
- Collaborate with external agencies and maintain knowledge of local resources to meet client needs effectively.
- Contribute to program development initiatives within Empower Treatment.
- Participate in regular supervision sessions and attend all required staff meetings.
- Maintain continuing education requirements to stay current with best practices in mental health and substance use treatment.
- Assist with data collection to support program outcomes evaluation.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental needs of youth clients.
- Work collaboratively with caseworkers, family members, and other providers involved in youth care to deliver coordinated, comprehensive support.
- Use appropriate therapeutic techniques suited to the developmental stages and unique needs of youth clients.
- Recognize and respond to signs of child abuse, following protocols for reporting and intervention.
- Understand the roles of other systems impacting youth clients, such as child welfare, education, and mental health services.
- Identify patterns in youth behavior, understanding potential causes and underlying issues.
- Ensure confidentiality and ethical standards are maintained in all work with clients, particularly youth.
- Exhibit competence in supporting child survivors of trauma, violence, and crisis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
III. Job Specifications
A. Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Must hold licensure with the State Social Work or Counseling Board (e.g., LSW, LPCC).
B. Level of Authority and Responsibility:
- Responsible for high-quality client care, including assessment, goal setting, and monitoring individualized treatment plans.
- Serves as a representative of Empower Treatment in community education and prevention initiatives.
C. Scope and Complexity of Job Duties:
- Requires knowledge of therapy techniques, therapeutic issues, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and crisis intervention skills.
D. Interpersonal Relationships within the Agency:
- Must work well within a team-oriented environment, supporting agency goals and colleagues.
- Demonstrates cultural and socio-economic sensitivity in interactions with diverse client populations.

- May involve managing a combative or distressed client as needed.
