Job Summary
The Certified Peer Specialist at Empower Treatment plays a key role in supporting individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges. Using their own lived experiences, the Peer Specialist fosters hope, empowerment, and recovery in clients, helping them navigate their journey to wellness. This position emphasizes collaboration with clients to provide guidance, promote self-advocacy, and support independence throughout the recovery process.
Responsibilities
- Individual Support: Work one-on-one with clients to help them identify and set personal recovery goals, developing actionable steps to achieve them.
- Motivational Support: Apply motivational interviewing techniques to encourage clients in their recovery journey and build confidence in their own abilities.
- Group Facilitation: Lead group sessions focused on skill-building, coping mechanisms, and peer support to foster a supportive community environment.
- Resource Assistance: Guide clients in accessing vital community resources, including addiction counseling, mental health services, and support networks.
- Mentorship and Guidance: Offer mentorship and perspective based on personal experiences with recovery, providing insights and encouragement.
- Crisis Support: Employ crisis intervention strategies to assist clients during critical moments, ensuring a supportive presence during challenging times.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain clear and accurate records of client interactions and progress in alignment with agency policies.
- Collaborative Care: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, well-rounded care for clients.
- Client Advocacy: Advocate for clients' needs within healthcare and community systems, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and services.
Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience in behavioral health services, with a strong commitment to supporting recovery in others. Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience in addiction counseling, mental health counseling, or peer support.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and supportive practices.
- Skills in mentoring and guiding individuals who face similar recovery challenges.
